The Secretary of State has approved the amended emergency rules as filed by The West Virginia Board of Dental Examiners on July 15, 2008. Therefore, the rule is now in effect. However, dental hygienists must apply for a permit to practice under general supervision or public health practice and receive a certificate from the Board before engaging in such practices.
Please note: These rules do not allow for the performance of supragingival and coronal polishing by trained dental assistants. Coronal polishing by a trained dental assistant is proposed in a different set of rules going through the normal rule process and will only go into effect if passed by Legislature during the 2009 Legislative Session. le
